Take Time to Recharge

“The apostles gathered around Jesus and told him all that they had done and taught. He said to them, ‘Come away to a deserted place all by yourselves and rest a while.’ For many were coming and going, and they had no leisure even to eat. And they went away in the boat to a deserted place by themselves.”
Mark 6: 30-32

It is hard to believe how fast this summer has been going, as we now enter the month of August! Summer days in Wisconsin are full of beautiful weather and activities.

During those summer days, it can be such a busy time, and we do not take time to step away and just appreciate the things around us. In the Gospel of Mark, Jesus spends time teaching and preparing the disciples for ministry. Jesus has called them into a life of ministry and service.

In the Gospel of Mark, Jesus says to them, “Come away to a deserted place all by yourselves and rest a while.” Mark 6: 31

Jesus is role modeling something very important to them. To take time out and rest. Go into quiet places, to pray and be alone in God’s good creation. To take time from the business of work and life, and to recharge your strength and energy.

God is calling them to a life of ministry and service, and yet does not call them to burn out, or “burn the candle at both ends.” Jesus shows them the value and importance of rest and sabbath time.

May you also find time for rest, recovery and worship with God’s help this summer and the days to follow!

Peace, Joy, and Blessings in Jesus!
