The Good News of Easter

“On the first day of the week, very early in the morning, the women took the spices they had prepared and went to the tomb. They found the stone rolled away from the tomb, but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. While they were wondering about this, suddenly two men in clothes that gleamed like lightning stood beside them. In their fright the women bowed down with their faces to the ground, but the men said to them, “Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here; he has risen! Remember how he told you, while he was still with you in Galilee: The Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, be crucified and on the third day be raised again.“ Then they remembered his word.” Luke 24: 1-8

The season of Lent, leading up to Easter Sunday, is like preparing for spring. The women are tired and worn from the past week’s events, as Jesus has been taken, crucified and buried in a tomb. Faithfully, the women arrive early in the morning bringing spices for the body of Jesus. What they encounter was not what they expected. Two men, probably angels appear to them and ask them a question, “Why do they look for the living among the dead?” The angels go on to proclaim that Jesus is no longer dead, Jesus has risen indeed! Go and share the good news to others! Wow! What an amazing and beautiful morning it was…and what a powerful message to share and proclaim! We too, hear the “Good News that Jesus has risen…and we too, are called and claimed to share the “Good News” with others! Jesus has won the victory for us over sin and death… once and for All!
